CVE-2023-53830

Опубликовано: 09 дек. 2025
Источник: redhat
CVSS3: 5.5

Описание

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: platform/x86: think-lmi: Fix memory leak when showing current settings When retriving a item string with tlmi_setting(), the result has to be freed using kfree(). In current_value_show() however, malformed item strings are not freed, causing a memory leak. Fix this by eliminating the early return responsible for this.

A memory leak was found in the Lenovo ThinkPad LMI driver in the Linux kernel. When current_value_show() encounters malformed item strings from tlmi_setting(), it returns early without freeing the allocated memory. Repeated reads of sysfs attributes could gradually exhaust kernel memory.

Отчет

This affects only Lenovo ThinkPad systems using the think-lmi driver. An attacker would need local access and sustained interaction with sysfs to cause noticeable memory pressure.

Меры по смягчению последствий

To mitigate this issue, prevent the think-lmi module from being loaded. See https://access.redhat.com/solutions/41278 for instructions.
