In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
drm/amd/display: Fix index out of bounds in degamma hardware format translation
Fixes index out of bounds issue in
cm_helper_translate_curve_to_degamma_hw_format function. The issue
could occur when the index 'i' exceeds the number of transfer function
points (TRANSFER_FUNC_POINTS).
The fix adds a check to ensure 'i' is within bounds before accessing the
transfer function points. If 'i' is out of bounds the function returns
false to indicate an error.

A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's AMD display (drm/amd/display) component. A local attacker could exploit an index out of bounds vulnerability within the cm_helper_translate_curve_to_degamma_hw_format function. This issue occurs when an index exceeds the expected number of transfer function points, potentially leading to a buffer overflow. Successful exploitation could result in a denial of service or, in some cases, arbitrary code execution, allowing the attacker to gain control over the system.

To prevent the amdgpu kernel module from loading, create a file /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-amdgpu.conf with the content blacklist amdgpu. After creating the file, rebuild the initial ramdisk using sudo dracut -f -v and reboot the system. This action will disable AMD graphics functionality, which may impact systems relying on AMD GPUs for display output or accelerated computing. A system reboot is required for the changes to take effect.
