CVE-2024-58079

Описание

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: media: uvcvideo: Fix crash during unbind if gpio unit is in use We used the wrong device for the device managed functions. We used the usb device, when we should be using the interface device. If we unbind the driver from the usb interface, the cleanup functions are never called. In our case, the IRQ is never disabled. If an IRQ is triggered, it will try to access memory sections that are already free, causing an OOPS. We cannot use the function devm_request_threaded_irq here. The devm_* clean functions may be called after the main structure is released by uvc_delete. Luckily this bug has small impact, as it is only affected by devices with gpio units and the user has to unbind the device, a disconnect will not trigger this error.

A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's uvcvideo driver. A local user with a device containing a GPIO (General Purpose Input/Output) unit could trigger a system crash by unbinding the driver from the USB interface. This occurs because cleanup functions are not properly called, leading to an Interrupt Request (IRQ) attempting to access freed memory. This vulnerability results in a Denial of Service (DoS).

Меры по смягчению последствий

To mitigate this issue, prevent the uvcvideo kernel module from loading. This can be achieved by creating a modprobe configuration file. Create a file named /etc/modprobe.d/uvcvideo.conf with the following content:

install uvcvideo /bin/true

After creating the file, a system reboot is required for the changes to take effect. Alternatively, if the module is currently loaded, it can be unloaded using rmmod uvcvideo (if not in use) and then reloaded, or the system can be rebooted. Disabling this module may affect the functionality of USB video devices.
