In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ext4: fix off-by-one error in do_split Syzkaller detected a use-after-free issue in ext4_insert_dentry that was caused by out-of-bounds access due to incorrect splitting in do_split. Found by Linux Verification Center (linuxtesting.org) with Syzkaller.

This vulnerability is rated as Moderate severity for Red Hat Enterprise Linux because exploitation is restricted to local authenticated users with write permissions on an ext4 filesystem. Red Hat Enterprise Linux uses XFS as the default filesystem, which limits typical exposure unless ext4 partitions are explicitly configured and mounted. A local user with access to write to an ext4 directory could create specific directory entry structures that trigger memory corruption, potentially leading to a system crash or unauthorized disclosure of kernel memory.
