CVE-2026-23188

Опубликовано: 14 фев. 2026
Источник: redhat
CVSS3: 4.7

Описание

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: usb: r8152: fix resume reset deadlock rtl8152 can trigger device reset during reset which potentially can result in a deadlock: **** DPM device timeout after 10 seconds; 15 seconds until panic **** Call Trace: schedule+0x483/0x1370 schedule_preempt_disabled+0x15/0x30 __mutex_lock_common+0x1fd/0x470 __rtl8152_set_mac_address+0x80/0x1f0 dev_set_mac_address+0x7f/0x150 rtl8152_post_reset+0x72/0x150 usb_reset_device+0x1d0/0x220 rtl8152_resume+0x99/0xc0 usb_resume_interface+0x3e/0xc0 usb_resume_both+0x104/0x150 usb_resume+0x22/0x110 The problem is that rtl8152 resume calls reset under tp->control mutex while reset basically re-enters rtl8152 and attempts to acquire the same tp->control lock once again. Reset INACCESSIBLE device outside of tp->control mutex scope to avoid recursive mutex_lock() deadlock.

A flaw was found in the Linux kernel, specifically within the r8152 USB network adapter driver. This vulnerability allows a local attacker to trigger a device reset during a system resume operation. The issue arises from a recursive mutex lock, where the driver attempts to acquire the same lock twice, leading to a deadlock. This can cause the system to become unresponsive, resulting in a Denial of Service (DoS).

Отчет

This MODERATE impact flaw in the Linux kernel's r8152 USB network adapter driver allows a local attacker to trigger a Denial of Service. The vulnerability, caused by a recursive mutex lock during a system resume operation, can lead to system unresponsiveness. Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6, 7, 8, and 9 are not affected as the vulnerable code is not present. Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10 and Red Hat In-Vehicle OS are affected.

Меры по смягчению последствий

To mitigate this issue, prevent the r8152 kernel module from loading. This can be achieved by creating a modprobe configuration file. Create a file named /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-r8152.conf with the following content:

blacklist r8152 install r8152 /bin/true

After creating the file, regenerate the initramfs and reboot the system for the changes to take effect. This mitigation may impact functionality if the r8152 USB network adapter is required for system operation.
